§ 24.2-951 Referendum committee election cycle; political advertisement requirements

Overview of Statute

This section defines the election cycle for a referendum committee.

Statute

A. The referendum committee’s election cycle shall be deemed to begin on the date that the referendum committee first organizes for the referendum through December 31 immediately following the referendum.

B. The provisions of Chapter 9.5 (§ 24.2-955 et seq.) shall not be applicable to referendum committees subject to the provisions of this article.

Definition [Referendum]

Any election held pursuant to law to submit a question to the voters for approval or rejection.

Definition [Referendum committee]

Any organization, person, group of persons, or committee, that makes expenditures in a calendar year in excess of (i) $10,000 to advocate the passage or defeat of a statewide referendum, (ii) $5,000 to advocate the passage or defeat of a referendum being held in two or more counties and cities, or (iii) $1,000 to advocate the passage or defeat of a referendum held in a single county or city.
